Maharashtra government has in principle accepted the revised recommendations of a study group on the cluster development scheme for Mumbai, which would be implemented after a hearing in this regard.
In a suo motu statement in the state Assembly, Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan today said that extra floor space index (FSI) would be provided under the scheme.
"This is being done to encourage housing societies and developers take up bigger plots for development under the scheme. The policy will help create proper infrastructure, wider roads, more parking slots, gardens and open spaces," Chavan said.
It will also improve the people's quality of life, he said.
Chavan said that the new cluster model would also be implemented in Thane and other cities, after the necessary changes in the development plans.
