The assurance was given to a division bench of Chief Justice Mohit Shah and Justice Anoop Mohta which was hearing a suo moto (on its own) Public Interest Litigation following the death of a brick kiln worker Jhipru Mukane, a bonded labourer who was allegedly killed by the brick kiln owner.

Additional public prosecutor Purnima Kantharia today submitted a report of the Commissioner of Labour to the court stating that necessary directions have been given to concerned officials to follow the directions given by the court in its order dated August 9 this year.

In the order, the court had asked officials to conduct surprise raids on brick kilns and verify that the wages paid to workers are as per the minimum prescribed by the government.

The court accepted the report submitted by the government and disposed of the PIL.
