Replying to a volley of queries on the functioning of the department, he said, "It is very unfortunate...There are only a few officers in the Education Department against whom there is no case going on. Almost everyone is facing vigilance enquiries...I cannot even give promotions to my department officials, there are no people left."
In the recent years, there have been allegations of large scale corruptions in the Education Department.
Earlier, replying to a question on appointment of primary school teachers, Sarma said huge appointments were made in almost every district, particularly in Nalbari, during the regime of earlier education ministers.
"Due to large scale of anomalies in appointment, all the appointments were terminated," Sarma said.
