A malaria inspector in the East Delhi Municipal Corporation has alleged that he was beaten up by a BJP councillor over the issue of fogging in an area in Laxmi Nagar.
Chandra Kiran complained to police that he was getting disinfectants sprayed in his designated area, when the councillor asked him to get it in done in his area.
The two persons then got into a spat after which the councillor allegedly punched the inspector and abused him, police said, adding it is probing the complaint.
Meanwhile, East Delhi Mayor Satya Sharma denied the charge levelled on the councillor, and alleged it was the malaria inspector who had "demanded bribe" from the councillor which led to the argument between them.
"When the councillor called up police then the malaria inspector went and filed the complaint against him. We have decided to suspend the inspector," Sharma said.
AAP's Laxmi Nagar MLA Nitin Tyagi alleged the malaria inspector was abused only because "he was fogging the area after being told by me".
The rising cases of vector-borne diseases like dengue and chikungunya have become a matter of slanging match between the AAP MLAs and the BJP councillors.
