Two persons were arrested in this connection even as over 1,000 people from Jagti township blocked Jammu-Srinagar highway in protest against the incident which occurred last night, SSP, Jammu, Atul Goel said.
Five assailants tried to abduct Ankur Talashi allegedly after a scuffle over some issue, Goel said.
On seeing this, Tej Krishen Talashi, aged around 50, came to his son's aid and the attackers stabbed and hit him with an iron rod, he said.
Tej later succumbed in a hospital, triggering protests in the area as people demanded immediate arrest of culprits, he said.
The body was handed over to the family after the postmortem at GMC hospital, he said.
"Police have constituted a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the case after registration of murder and abduction case against the assailants," he said.
Search in on for the remaining three accused, Goel said.
