The student was identified as Karamchand Barge (17) of Amlipani. He was a First-Year student of Veer Surendra Sai College in Jujomura, they said.
The student was riding a bicycle when the accident took place. The truck ran over him at Amlipani chhak and overturned.
Infuriated by the death of the student, angry locals rushed to the spot and set the truck on fire when the man was inside the vehicle. The irate mob also staged a road blockade demanding compensation for the family of the student.
Both fire brigade personnel and the police rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control.
SDPO Routray said, "A man, who was in the ill-fated vehicle, also died after the vehicle was set on fire."
However, he could not confirm whether the man burnt to death was the driver of the truck.
"The identification can be ascertained after the inquiry is complete," he said.
