The worker said to be a habitual drunkard had a quarrel with his wife over money for the brew, they said.
The woman who also ekes out her livelihood as a labourer allegedly refused to part with her hard earned money to be spent on alcohol.
Unable to resist the thought of taking the brew the daily wage earner rushed into a room in his house, locked it from inside and committed suicide by hanging, police said.
A case has been registered.
