A sessions court here has awarded seven years rigorous imprisonment to a man in a rape case.
Additional Sessions Judge Chamba Mukesh Bansal held Tilak Raj guilty in the case and pronounced the verdict on him yesterday, prosecution sources said.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on the convict.
In default of payment of fine, he will have to further undergo imprisonment for one-and-a-half year.
The sources said that Raj raped an elderly woman in February last year in Salooni tehsil here.
He even injured the woman badly on her leg and forehead.
However, some of the passers-by noticed her lying near a culvert and rushed her to hospital.
They also registered a complaint against the convict after which he was arrested and a case registered against him under sections 376 and 323 of the IPC.
