Man gets life term for attempting to murder ex-employer's wife

A man has been sentenced to life term by a Delhi Court for attempting to murder his former employer's wife after he was sacked from his job.
While awarding life imprisonment to Wasim, the court said the victim had been shot at due to which she had sustained grievous injury and that her right hand had to be amputated.
Additional Sessions Judge T S Kashyap held Wasim, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, guilty of attempt to murder under the IPC and the Arms Act.
A fine of Rs 4,000 was also imposed on him.
"The convict was in possession of one country-made pistol and live cartridge and had also fired a gun shot on victim Shahnaj Begum causing grievous injury to her. He had no license for possessing the pistol," the court said.

According to the prosecution, the incident took place on February 21, 2011, when Wasim entered the house of his former employer Sabir Khan under whom he was doing embroidery work and shot at his wife Shahnaj's right hand.

Khan tried to catch him but Wasim ran away and a case was registered at Bhajanpura police station. Wasim was apprehended later on.
Khan told the police that Wasim had been working with him for four-five months before the incident and was also staying in a room at his house.
Khan said he removed Wasim from the job since he was a habitual drunkard and asked him to vacate the room after clearing all his dues. Khan said Wasim was demanding more money from him and had also extended threats of facing consequences in case of non-payment.

During the trial, Wasim claimed he was in love with Shahnaj and that is why her husband shot at her and falsely implicated him in the case.
