The court of Principal District and Sessions Judge, Budgam, sentenced Kamaljeet Singh, a resident of Beerwah, to life imprisonment under sections 376 (rape) and 302 (murder) of Ranbir Penal Code (RPC).
After 14 years of trial, the court on December 10 had found Singh guilty of the charges of raping and murdering two six-year-old girls in 2002.
The chargesheet was filed against before the trial court in November 2002.
The convict has been sent to Central Jail Srinagar, where he will be lodged pending confirmation of the sentence by the Jammu and Kashmir High Court.
