Man gets life term for raping 90-year-old woman

A 52-year-old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for raping a 90-year-old woman by a court here, which said the "barbaric act" of raping a helpless widow was unpardonable.
Additional Sessions Judge SC Rai held Rajkumar aka Kuku guilty under sections 376 (rape) and 450 (house trespass in order to commit crime) of IPC.
The court also handed him a rigorous imprisonment of five years and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000, public prosecutor Ashok Patel said today, adding both the sentences will run concurrently.
According to prosecution, Rajkumar, who was in an inebriated condition, entered the hut of the nonagenarian, located near Johnson School under Gorakpur Police Station area, on the intervening night of November 29-30 last year and sexually assaulted her.

She sustained injures in the assault and fractured her leg, prosecution said, adding she was rushed to hospital by her neighbours the next day.
The Madhya Pradesh High Court had taken suo motu cognisance of the incident and served notices on district superintendent of police and principal secretary, Home department, and sought their replies.
