A 28-year-old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a local court for killing his wife for dowry in 2010 in Garhmalpur village.
Additional District Judge Sandeep Jain yesterday held Ram Jeevan Saini guilty under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC for killing his wife Sangeeta (28) by setting her afire after dousing her with kerosene on October 20, 2010.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on Saini.
The victim's family had alleged that her in-laws had been torturing her for dowry. In her dying statement, Sangeeta had named only her husband as accused.
