Kalander Abbas Jahir, a resident of Tamil Nadu, had arrived here from Dubai on Wednesday. He was intercepted by customs officials and his baggages were searched following an intelligence.
"During x-ray of his body at Safdarjung Hospital, some foreign body was noticed in his lower abdomen. After ejection, these foreign bodies were found to be fifteen rectangular gold biscuits collectively weighing 1.5 kgs," a press release issued today by the customs said.
The customs officials had on June 20 also arrested a Sri Lankan national for allegedly trying to smuggle into the country gold bars valuing about Rs 57 lakh.
Four persons, including the one who tried to smuggle gold bars concealed in lower abdomen, were also arrested in two separate incidents of smuggling on June 19 at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here. They had tried to smuggle gold worth over Rs 78 lakh.
