Police has claimed to have solved the murder of a woman in a guest house in Jama Masjid area of central Delhi, with the arrest of a man, who was in a relationship with her, from Sitapur in Uttar Pradesh.
40-year-old Kaushalya Devi, a local resident, was found strangled with a dupatta in Amreena guest house in Jama Masjid area on October 19.
Preliminary enquiry revealed that she had come along with a man later identified as Maqbool, 45, to the guest house, on October 18, and they had stayed there claiming to be husband and wife, DCP, Central Delhi, Paramaditya said.
The man left the guest house at about 2 pm on the day and did not turn up. Later, suspecting foul play, the manager of the guest house checked the room rented by the couple and found the woman strangled and informed the police.
An FIR was subsequently registered at Jama Masjid police station, he said.
Address of Maqbool was later found out through the Aadhaar ID he had submitted at the guest house for renting the room.
During investigation, cops found that accused Maqbool had been in a relationship with the woman for a long time. He was later arrested from his native place in Sitapur.
During interrogation he revealed having relationship with the deceased for nearly a decade, he said.
He admitted murdering the woman as she was allegedly putting pressure on him for marriage failing which she threatened to implicate him in a false case, the officer said.
