The passenger was intercepted by customs officials after his arrival here from Bangkok on Monday. He was trying to smuggle the gold with the help of another person who works as a baggage service agent at the airport, a release issued today by the customs said.
The passenger had handed over four gold bars of one kg each to the baggage service agent after his arrival at the airport. The customs officials recovered the gold bars from the agent employed by a private firm, it said.
The passenger was arrested and gold was seized. The agent was being questioned by the customs officials to check his involvement in any other incident of gold smuggling in the past, official sources said.
