A farmer of Thengamara village had gone to collect firewood from the sanctuary last evening when he was attacked by the wild buffalo near Garubandha camp of the sanctuary and gored to death.
The farmer was identified as Amulya Das.
The postmortem was conducted today.
Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary has a population of more than 200 wild buffaloes, the sources added.
