Unable to tolerate the constant crying by the child, the step-father Niranjan Prem Sagar Tiwari (30) last evening slapped him.
However, when the child's mother Ellamma Niranjan Tiwari objected to it, the accused lifted the boy and repeatedly banged him on the floor of his house in Hanuman Nagar locality of Ambernath township here following which the boy died, assistant police inspector P S Pasalkar said.
Based on the complaint filed by the child's mother, the accused was later arrested, he said.
The accused has been booked under section 302 (murder) of the IPC, police said.
