The man left behind a suicide note in which he blamed his brothers, sister in-laws and nephews for demanding money to settle a property dispute, they said.
Charanjit Singh Channi allegedly hanged himself after strangulating his daughter to death. A case of abatement to suicide has been registered against six people, the police said.
The police is investigating the matter and the accused would be arrested, Deputy Superintendent of Police (City) Devinder Singh said.
The man was a resident of Paras Ram Nagar and the incident came to light when one of his niece came back home from an event and found him hanging, the police said.
The man, a daily wager, in the suicide note claimed that he had already settled the property issue and paid Rs 1 lakh to his brothers, but they were still putting pressure on him for more money which he was unable to pay, the police said.
