The deceased has been identified as Anuj, who lived alone in the Nabipur area of the district.
The incident came to light this afternoon when Anuj's neighbours complained of foul smell emanating from his room, which was locked from outside.
"Seeing the body's condition, it seems Anuj had died a week ago. Today afternoon, his neighbours felt foul smell coming out from his locked room. Sensing something wrong, they opened doors and found him hanging from the ceiling fan," said a senior police official.
"Police have also got to know that Anuj's elder brother is serving jail for killing four persons in 2007. The reason behind his murder could also be personal enmity. However, police are investigating the case from all angles. We are awaiting his postmortem report to ascertain the exact cause of his death," the official said.
