A jilted man allegedly strangulated the mother-in-law of his lover and then set the body on fire Pakur district for opposing his relationship with her daughter-in-law, police today said.
The incident happened yesterday at Nagarnavi village under the jurisdiction of Malpahari police outpost in the district, the police said.
The accused, who was released from jail recently, was sent behind bars after he had eloped with the victims daughter-in-law a few months ago, Sub-divisional Police Officer Shravan Kumar said.
The police have recovered the half-burnt body of the woman and sent it for post-mortem examination, he said.
A case has been registered against the accused, he said, adding that the accused is absconding.
