Mandeep and co advance to semifinals at Youth National C'ship

Former World Junior champion, Mandeep Kaur of Punjab progressed to the semifinals of the Youth women's National Championship with a dominating win over Akhila Shine of Kerela in the feather weight division (54-57kg), here today.
The 16-year old prodigy, who hails from Chakkar Village, was adjudged victories after the referee had to stop play in the opening round, following a dominating show by Mandeep.
In women's light fly (45-48kg), Delhi's Tanvi Kaushal thrashed Maharashtra's Tanushree S Bengle 5-0, Haryana's Jyothi emerged winner against Mizoram's Zothanpuli after match was stopped in the first round, Punjab's Babita Rani beat Pragati of UP 4-1, while MP's Anjali Sharma also defeated AP's G Joythi 4-1 to reach the final four.
In women's fly weight (48-51kg), Haryana's Akta, HP's Maya Kumari and MP's Mani Singh Gaur defeated Kerela's Ananya S Das, Bengal's Kashmira Katun and Punjab's Kamaljeet Kaur 5-0 respectively in one-sided contests, while Assam's Joy Kumari Lama saw off AP's G Ramya 3-2 in another quarterfinal match to make the next round.
In women's bantam weight (51-54kg), Palian Lalnunfeli beat V Gnameswari in an unanimous decision to reach the semifinals.
The Youth men's National championship, which is simultaneously being organised along with the women's category, here also showcased some thrilling contests.
In light fly weight (46-49kg), Chandigarh's Ansul Punia, Tamil Nadu's B Ramakrishnan and Barun Singh of Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) produced dominating shows thrashing Chattisgarh's Pankaj Kumar, Punjab's Shubham and Suraj Singh Mazila of Uttarakhand respectively with identical scores of 5-0 in lop-sided contests to storm into the semifinals here.
Shahil Shah of Himachal Pradesh, meanwhile, edged out MD Ikramul Mansuri of West Bengal 3-2 in another contest to make it to the last four.
In fly weight (52kg) category, UP's Sudeep K Yadav blanked MP's Alok Singh 5-0, while Punjab's Gurpreet Singh defeated HP's Ashish Kumar 4-1 to reach the semifinals. SSCB's CH Wilson Singh also saw off Rajasthan's Shiv Dayal 4-1, while Manipur's Moirangthem R Singh edged past Haryana's Purshotam 3-2 to also make it to the final four.
In bantam weight (56kg) division, Mizoram's Laldingliana emerged victories over J&K's Anil Kumar after referee stopped the contest in the opening round, while SSCB's MD Etash Khan beat West Bengal's Rahul Shrestha in an unanimous decision.
