A day after Union Minister Maneka Gandhi suggested that sex determination test should be made compulsory to track women pregnant with a girl child, Health Minister J P Nadda today said that it is not a Cabinet's decision.
"This is her own view and not a Cabinet decision so I do not want to discuss anything about it here, Nadda said at the All India Regional Editors Conference here.
Gandhi had yesterday said women should be compulsorily told that whether they are expecting a boy or a girl and it should be registered to be able to check whether they have given the births or not.
"I am just putting out this idea. It is being discussed though there is no conclusion yet," Gandhi said at the Conference.
Nadda also held discussions with Rajasthan health minister Rajendra Rathore and senior health department officials on preparedness to tackle Swine flu in the state.
"Discussed preparations to tackle H1N1 Influenza in Rajasthan with state Health Minister and senior state govt officials," Nadda said in a series of tweets.
According to reports, the disease has claimed the lives of five persons died while around 40 have been tested positive for the H1N1 virus since January 1.
A rise in temperature in winters was cited as the reason behind the H1N1 virus spread in the state
In another session, Union Minister Thaawar Chand Gehlot said various policies and legislations have been reviewed and time-bound action plans drafted to fast track socio-economic development and empowerment of SCs, OBCs, Persons with Disabilities and other vulnerable sections of society.
Gehlot said that welfare of SC students has been given high priority and scholarships for SC students at different levels have been enhanced.
On Mudra Yojana scheme, which envisaged young
entrepreneurs starting small business to avail loans ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 10 lakh without any collateral security, Nadda said, "In Kerala, the scheme was not properly utilised. Trade unions are not supporting it. People should utilise the funds to the maximum level."
On social sector, Nadda said the government was taking utmost care of the public health and providing insurance cover for them.
On medical sector, he announced that district medical hospitals will be upgraded to super speciality hospitals and 58 such district hospitals will be upgraded next year and hospitals in Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode and Alappuzha are among them.
"For the common man to enjoy the benefit, the state government should come forward to work and we are here to co-operate with them," he said.
Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattreya said, "Major changes have taken place in the labour ministry".
"Minimum pension for workers under EPF which was around Rs 400 in the past has been hiked to Rs 1000 per month after the Narendra Modi government took charge benefiting about 50 lakh workers," he said.
For rehabilitation of bonded labourers rescued from slavery, the Centre is providing a relief of Rs one lakh to Rs three lakh. The budget provision by the previous UPA government in this regard was a meagre Rs four crore whereas the amount is Rs 41 crore now, the minister said. Both the ministers condemned the alleged violence "perpetrated" on BJP workers in various parts in the state saying "violence is resorted to when ideological support is lost which is nowhere good. It is a manifestation of frustration. The state government should act judicially and law and order should be maintained".
