A Manipuri youth was allegedly killed by a youth from the same state in an inebriated condition after an argument broke out between them over a petty issue in north Delhi's Maurice Nagar, police said today.
The deceased, identified as Ngulinlal Haokip alias Lalboi (21) and the accused Minjoy (20) were students of Delhi University.
"Haokip, a student of final year BA Programming at Shivaji College, who lived in Model Town visited the accused Minjoy (20) at his room in Chiristan Colony on Saturday night. He is a student of BA final year at Shyamlal College," a police official said.
According to the police, both of them had consumed alcohol and got into an heated argument following which Minjoy allegedly used a data cable to suffocate Haokip and later slit his throat using a knife.
After the incident, the accused informed another friend Boilen, who accompanied him to his room and found Haokip dead. The duo along with the elder brother of the deceased then reached the police station and reported the incident.
The accused narrated the incident to the police who then rushed the victim to Sushruta Trauma Centre where he was declared brought dead.
"On the statement of Boilen, a case of murder was registered at Maurice Nagar police station," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Madhur Verma.
Police said the accused was heavily drunk when he arrived at the police station and he was formally arrested on Sunday morning.
