One Saminathan of Vellarukkampalayam had fixed the marriage of his 17-year old son with that of a 17-year old girl from a village in Tirupur district, for tomorrow, police said.
Officials in social welfare department and child welfare departments got a tip off about the marriage and immediately contacted police in Thondamuthur, they said.
Senior police officials went and spoke to the parents, the bride and bridegroom about the ills of early marriage and succeeded in preventing the marriage, they said.
