MBAI awards for best initiatives of self-government bodies

The Marine Biological Association of India (MBAI) would give awards for the best initiatives of local self-government bodies and other organisations in a slew of areas including marine waste management.

The MBAI will give awards for the best practices in the areas of removal and processing of accumulated marine debris, infrastructure developed for coastal zone management, models developed for plastic waste recycling and processing and new packaging for reducing use of plastics and strategies developed for implementations, a release said here today.

The award is part of the national conference on marine debris organised by the MBAI here during April 11 and 12, said the release issued by Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI).

The local government bodies, residential associations, NGOs and other developmental organisations who are engaging with such initiatives will be given opportunities to present their success models during the conference.

The conference, which is hosted by the CMFRI,is mainly aimed at drawing an action plant to control marine debris, which is one of the biggest threats to the aquatic ecosystem.

Besides the discussions on latest research works in the areas of marine debris and coastal zone management, the conference will be open to the public to share their views to resolve the issue of marine debris, the release said.
