Meghalaya minister Ampareen Lyngdoh today condemning the killing of journalist Gauri Lankesh and said the country has lost an admirable woman scribe whose thoughts and opinions gave insight and dimension to issues that many dared not articulate.
"I strongly condemn the violent and heartless attack on journalist Gauri Lankesh," she said adding that Lankesh's untimely death will create an irreplaceable void especially for women journalists across the country.
Lyngdoh, the state's information and public relations minister, told PTI that Lankesh was the voice of the oppressed and was known for her brave stand, honest views on issues of secularism and women's rights.
The Shillong Press Club too condemned the attack on Lankesh and extended its solidarity with the bereaved family, friends and well wishers and urged the authorities to ensure that justice is delivered.
Lankesh (55) was shot dead by unidentified assailants at her Bengaluru residence last evening.
