ITO-Kashmere Gate link, part of the Phase-III of the ongoing work, falls on the 'heritage section' of the DMRC that stretches from Central Secretariat-Kashmere Gate on the Violet Line of the network, one of its busiest.
"The construction work of Phase-III is progressing satisfactorily and we should be able to complete the civil construction work and commence signaling trials on most of the stretches within this year. This new phase will have new trains and signaling technology called Communication Based Train Control (CBTC)," a DMRC official said.
"In Jantar Mantar area, and in areas adjoining Red Fort and Delhi Gate, Kashmere Gate, we need permissions from ASI. Of course work was stopped for six months at Jama Masjid, but now the work is almost complete," he said.
Speaking to reporters, DMRC chief Mangu Singh said, "Out of 56 km-long Majlis Park-Shiv Vihar section, construction work on 54 km have been completed. Land has not been made available to DMRC at some pockets in Mayapuri, Naraina and Trilokpuri."
Singh raised concerns in areas at Seelampur because of the presence of a "passing railway line", though said "we are very confident we will complete the work."
On trials he said, for the Magenta Line, from Janakpuri West-Botanical Garden and Botanical Garden-Kalkaji, they are likely to begin on July 1.
"We will start trials on Majlis Park-Lajpat Nagar section in October, Lajpat Nagar-IP Extension in December," he said.
In a statement later, DMRC said, trials on Terminal 1 IGI Airport-Janakpuri (West) will also begin in July.
"In terms of length, the volume of work in Phase 3 is almost equal to the combined construction length of the first two phases," the statement said.
The DMRC also said that it is soon going to start operations at the state-of-the-art depot in north-east Delhi's Mukundpur spread over an area of 30 ha. It will serve as a hub to most of the trains on the Pink Line, it said.
"It has facilities to stable 46 coaches of standard-gauge trains and some additional space has been kept so that another eight trains can be accommodated," DMRC spokesperson Anuj Dayal said.
