The bypoll was necessitated following the demise of former Lok Sabha Speaker and long time MP from Tura, Purno A Sangma, earlier this year.
"We have been informed (by the MHA) that ten companies of CAPF will be deployed additionally in the poll-bound districts of Garo Hills region," Kharkongor told PTI.
He said the additional CAPF was expected to arrive shortly before May 16 apart from the 19 companies which were already deployed for counter insurgency operations in the five districts going to polls on May 16.
In South West Garo HIlls district, 66 arms have been deposited and 22 persons have been placed under sections 107/ 109/116 of the CrPC.
Altogether 2,250 litres of country liquor have been destroyed, while 25 bottles of IMFL have been seized by the police in the district, officials at the CEO's office said.
