At least two security personnel were shot dead today when some unidentified militants attacked them in the restive North Sinai governorate of eastern Egypt.
The militants killed a policeman and a conscript in Sheikh Zuweid area. They first stopped a bus, forced the victims to get off and then shot them dead, police said.
Earlier today, media reports said five conscripts had been shot dead in two separate attacks in Rafah and Sheikh Zuweid areas. But police later clarified that only two officials were killed.
Yesterday, an attack on a naval patrol, near one of the country's Mediterranean port, left five servicemen injured and eight others missing.
North Sinai has witnessed many violent attacks by militants since the Egyptian Revolution of 2011, that toppled ex-president Hosni Mubarak.
Egypt declared a three-month state of emergency in parts of north Sinai and a curfew following a deadly attack that killed 31 soldiers last month.
The army has launched frequent security operations in the area, arrested suspects and destroyed terrorist bases including tunnels leading to the neighbouring Gaza Strip.
The militant attacks targeting police and military increased after the ouster of Islamist ex-president Mohamed Morsi last year. Over 500 security personnel have been killed so far.
