As per the existing provisions, when a vehicle is transferred to a new State and kept for more than a year, the owner has to seek new registration and pay taxes.
"A Group of Transport Ministers from States would deliberate on the matter, given the seriousness of the issue, next week," an official said.
The empowered group of Ministers had earlier passed a resolution which inter-alia, stated that no tax may be charged in the new State if the vehicle is more than two years old and where no refund has been made from the original State.
However, in case the owner has paid life-time motor vehicle tax in the previous State, he may seek a refund of the road tax on pro-rata basis from that state in the event of transfer to other state, the official said.
