Though the incident had occurred around six months back, it did not come to light as the victim, an intermediate second-year student, had left for Hyderabad after it. The victim's mother called her back to Vizianagaram and they lodged a complaint to police this afternoon, a senior police officer said.
According to police, the five accused sexually assaulted the teenage girl after one of the accused allegedly filmed her bathing and threatened to upload the footage on the internet.
After the complaint, a case was registered under relevant sections of the IPC, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against the five youths, who were taken into custody and were being interrogated, DSP, Bobbili Sub-Division, said.
