The incident took place when the accused Krishna Dutt Sharma was passing by the 5-year-old girl's house, they said.
"The matter came to light when the girl started crying. Her grandfather has identified the accused and lodged a complaint. We have sent the victim for medical examination. Rape is yet not confirmed," said Jitendra Singh, station house officer of Chomu police station.
The accused has been arrested and booked under POCSO Act.
According to the State Crime Records Bureau, 283 cases were lodged under POCSO in the first 182 days this year.
