BJP leader Sudhanshu Mittal's resignation from the post of Convenor, Delhi Election Cell of the party, has led to speculation that announcement of a poll campaign committee is aimed at clipping the wings of state unit president Vijay Goel is imminent.
Mittal, who is close to Goel, quit yesterday as the Election Campaign Committee which is likely to be announced in a day or two, has leaders from the anti-Goel camp, sources said. The Committee is likely to be headed by Harshvardhan, they added.
"Since it will be awkward for Mittal to work with the new team, he probably decided to resign from the post of convenor of the Delhi unit Election Cell," a Delhi BJP leader said.
Others maintained Mittal could have been directed by the BJP central leadership to put in his papers and his continuance would create a conflict with the campaign committee.
Mittal did not respond to phone calls for his side of the story.
