Moderate to rather heavy rainfall or thundershowers occurred in the last 24 hours at some places in eastern UP with Prime Minister Narendra Modi being forced to cancel a visit to Varanasi as the city was hit by a tremendous downpour.
On the other hand, light to moderate rain or thundershowers took place at a few places in the western parts of the state, the weather office said.
According to the MeT department, Ghazipur received 90mm rainfall followed by Mohamadabad (60mm) and Gaighat (50mm).
Delhi -- which, too, was tipped to receive light rainfall tomorrow -- woke up to a pleasant morning today although sunny skies eventually saw the mercury settling at 39 degrees Celsius in the national capital.
The maximum temperature was at two notches above the season's average. The minimum was recorded at 27 degrees.
Under mainly dry conditions in Delhi, humidity in air today oscillated between 43 and 72 per cent.
"The sky will be partly cloudy. Very light rain could occur in some parts of the national capital," the MeT official said.
Delhiites were on June 25 greeted with the season's first monsoon showers, which had provided some respite from the sweltering heat.
Hot weather conditions prevailed in Punjab and Haryana with the mercury hovering above the normal in several parts across the two neighbouring states.
The weatherman has predicted dry weather conditions in Punjab and Haryana in the coming 24 hours.
