Hitting back at Rahul Gandhi, BJP today said it was the UPA that "helped" industrialist Vijay Mallya secure loans from bank and the Modi government has done more for the poor and farmers than what Congress did in its decade long rule.
It rejected the Congress vice president's criticism of demonetisation as a "pro-rich and anti-poor", claiming that it was a measure against black money and enjoys people's support while political parties like Congress are opposing it out of malice.
BJP National Secretary Shrikant Sharma also attacked Gandhi for his jibe at RSS, saying the Hindutva organisation has only grown in strength over the years despite Congress' campaign against it.
"Congress government have paid only lip service to farmers and the poor while our government has taken a number of initiatives like crop insurance scheme, record hike in MSPs of pulses.
"It was the UPA government that helped Mallya receive a loan of Rs 1500 crore even when his accounts were frozen due to default on loans. Gandhi has no moral right to preach us," he told reporters.
The Congress leader levels similar baseless allegations against the government on a daily basis and it just shows that he remains a "non-serious" politician in search of headlines, Sharma said.
