A 23-year and eight month-old Royal Bengal tiger, possibly the oldest big cat in the country, died today at Kamala Nehru Zoo here.
The tiger, named 'Shamu', died of natural causes, zoo in-charge Dr Uttam Yadav said.
"Shamu was possibly the oldest tiger in the country," Yadav said, adding a Royal Bengal tigress died at the age of 24 in Nandan Kanan Zoo in Bhubaneshwar.
Shamu was the offspring of Sagar and Maya, inmates of the same zoo. Bihari, the pair's another offspring, died at the age of 21.
