An organisation representing the employees from unreserved category today alleged that Madhya Pradesh Government was misusing taxpayers' money to prolong the legal battle for continuing reservations in promotions.
"The government has deployed a battery of top lawyers in the Supreme Court to argue its case for reservations in promotions and is paying them hefty fees," said Dr Anand Singh Kushwaha, president of Samanya Pichhada Evam Alpsankhyak Varg Adhikari Karmachari Sanstha (SAPAKS).
Madhya Pradesh High Court in May this year set aside the reservations in promotions in the government services. HC also said all the promotions granted as per the 2002 Madhya Pradesh Public Service Rules would be invalid.
The state government challenged the HC ruling in the Supreme Court. Next hearing in the case is on January 24.
SAPAKS is holding its third state-level convention tomorrow to devise the future strategy.
"State government's move has enraged the employees and officials of unreserved categories, Dr Kushwaha said.
Journalist Lalit Shastri who is associated with SPARKS said the organisation was not against the reservation in recruitment, but reservation in promotion was contrary to the constitutional provisions. "We also demand the introduction of creamy layer provisions," he added.
