The MQM, the single largest party in the country's biggest city Karachi, yesterday announced that it would stage a peaceful protest across Sindh after the bodies of four MQM workers were recovered from Memon Goth Link Road here on Wednesday.
Many parts of interior Sindh province remained closed but the MQM's call had its biggest impact in Karachi where the party has ruled since the late eighties.
All businesses, markets, shops, petrol pumps, schools and educational institutions remained closed and there was also sparse traffic on roads in Karachi.
The MQM, which represents the Urdu speaking population migrated from India, last week joined the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party in the provincial government.
