The encounter took place this afternoon near Safeda Basti under Geeta Colony police station after accused Sahib (24) opened fire at a police party which had laid a trap to nab him.
Sahib fired at the police from a country-made pistol causing injuries to a seven-year-old girl. When the police retaliated, he was injured, a senior police officer said.
Subsequently he was overpowered but his accomplices fled.
A country made pistol and three bullets were recovered from Sahib and a case of attempt to murder and causing obstruction in discharge of duties of a government servant has been registered against him.
