Baisram Dhakad (35) had been in police custody following a court order yesterday.
He was found hanging with a piece of bed sheet in the lock-up early this morning, Sheopur District Superintendent of Police Sunil Pandey said.
Dhakad and his alleged paramour were arrested on the charge of killing the woman's husband three days ago.
They were produced in a court which sent the woman in judicial custody while remanding Dhakad in one-day police custody.
Soon after getting information about Dhakad's death, a mob of angry villagers protested in front of the police station, demanding judicial probe in the matter.
