A week after a court issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against Madhya Pradesh minister Lal Singh Arya in connection with a murder case, a team of Bhind district police visited his official residence here to arrest him, although they failed to find the BJP leader there.
On December 5, Bhind Special Judge Yogesh Gupta had issued an NBW against Arya, directing the police to execute the order by December 19, when the next hearing is scheduled.
A police officer said, "The two-member Bhind police team of sub inspector Ambar Singh Sikarwar and constable Ramesh Singh went looking for Arya at his official bungalow B-20 at Char Imli here, but couldn't find him."
Arya is one of the accused in the murder case of the then Congress MLA from Gohad, Makhanlal Jatav, who was shot dead on April 13, 2009, during the general elections.
Talking to PTI over phone, Bhind sub divisional officer of police (SDOP) Praveen Astana, said that the team was sent to Bhopal to execute the arrest warrant against Arya.
"The team went to the official residence of Arya today," he said.
Bhind Superintendent of Police Prashant Khare has assigned to Astana the task of executing the court arrest warrant.
Last month, the Gwalior bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court had turned down Arya's anticipatory bail plea.
Before issuing the NBW, the Bhind court had issued five bailable arrest warrants against the minister, but he had failed to appear before the court.
