The CB-CID today registered a murder case against former Sub-Inspector Kalidass for allegedly shooting to death a person who was taken into custody for interrogation on October 14 last.
Police said Kalidass could be arrested any moment.
Syed Mohammed (30) was taken in for interrogation for some street brawl and was shot dead following an argument with Kalidass, police said.
The state government had transferred the case from local police to the CB-CID,and also ordered a judicial inquiry into the killing of Syed Mohammed.
Judicial Magistrate Velusamy recently submitted a detailed 35-page report to the government after questioning Kalidass and relatives of Syed Mohammed and other eye-witnesses.
CB-CID officials conducted a separate investigation. The CB-CID, after their investigation and receipt of the JM's report, changed the case registered against the SI from suspicious death to that of murder.
They also registered cases under IPC sections including 323(causing injury). The CB-CID's investigation report rejected the claim of the SI of S.P.Pattinam Police station that he had shot Syed Mohammed in self-defence.
The SI got infuriated by some of the remarks of Syed Mohammed and had shot him to death, the report said. Kalidass, who is under suspension, is detained at the armed reserve police complex.
A charge sheet would also be filed in a day or two against the SI after his arrest, the police said.
