Nagaland welcomes New Year

Nagaland today welcomed the New Year with special services in churches and a hope from Governor PB Acharya that the state does not miss the "opportunity" to find "permanent peace" as it seeks a resolution to the decades-old Naga political issue.
Revellers were seen moving around wishing one another as firecrackers lit up the sky in the wee hours.
The last church services for 2015 were held last evening, followed by mid-night services.
Special New Year services were organised in churches to invoke the blessings of the Almighty for a prosperous 2016 and also to offer thanksgiving prayers for the year just passed.

Governor PB Acharya in a message said, "Permanent peace is at our doorstep and this opportunity should not be missed. It would be suicidal if we fail to achieve the goal of unity and peace towards achieving permanent peace."
The signing of a peace accord in 2015 between the Centre and the NSCN-IM brought a ray of hope for an early resolution of the decades-old Naga political issue.
