Nanda Devi Yatra to be held next year from Aug 18 to Sept 6

Nanda Devi Raj Jat Yatra, which was cancelled this year due to massive devastation caused on its route by the mid June calamity in Uttarakhand, will now be held next year from August 18 to September 6.
The revised dates for the yatra, held every 12 years through the picturesque hills of Chamoli district, were announced today by Nanda Devi Raj Jat Samity chief Rakesh Kunwar at Nauti village from where the pilgrimage traditionally begins.
A detailed calendar of the yatra will be released on the occasion of Basant Panchami next year, Samity secretary Bhuwan Nautiyal said.
Special prayers were held in the village before the announcement to seek the goddess' forgiveness for cancelling the yatra, a major religious event for people of the region.

Originally scheduled to be held from August 29 this year, the yatra was cancelled by the samity recently considering large scale devastation caused along the yatra's route.
