Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi today made a strong pitch for social equality in Parliament, assemblies and local bodies, suggesting that those belonging to weaker sections should represent not only reserved seats but also the unreserved ones.
"Social equality should also be visible in Parliament, state assemblies, panchayats, political parties. Not only reserved seats but also unreserved seats should get represented by people belonging to weaker sections," he said.
Naqvi, Minister of State for Minority Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs, made the remarks while addressing a seminar organised by an NGO Prabuddha Bharti International here to mark 125th birth anniversary of Constitution Architect BR Ambedkar.
Describing social equality and communal harmony as "key" to prosperity, he India cannot move forward until these values are made "complete part" of society without "political bias and selfishness".
Naqvi said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been working with a "strong" commitment towards country's prosperity with social equality and that the schemes initiated by the government aim at making India a country based on principles of Ambedkar.
