Naval to set up floating dock in Andaman

This, he said, would cater to the maintenance needs of Naval and Coast Guard vessels being operated by the command.

Addressing media persons aboard a floating dock here today, he said the command had finalized the technical specifications of the proposed dock and it would be commissioned during the current plan period.

Elaborating on its capablities, he said the dock would handle three medium ships at a time and all the controls in the dock would be fully modernized to improve the safety measures.

Interacting with the media persons, he said the dock which celebrates its silver jubilee this year was the lone floating dock when it was commissioned in 1987.

Although the country had developed another smaller floating dock at Goa, the dock at Port Blair was unique in its capablities and strategic location, he said.
