Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today disapproved of the alleged derogatory remarks made by Agriculture Minister Damodar Rout against a woman BJP leader of the state and Anganwadi workers.
"Such behaviour is always unacceptable and uncalled for," Patnaik said while responding to questions about the remarks made by Rout recently, which triggered sharp reaction from different quarters including some BJD leaders.
Stating that he personally does not take the names of others in his statements, the chief minister said he had spoken to the senior minister on the issue.
"I did have a word with him (Rout)," he said.
Women activists of BJP have been agitating and staging demonstrations here and elsewhere demanding resignation of Rout for his alleged derogatory remarks.
Rout had recently made the alleged remarks at a public meeting held in Jajpur district.
Members of All Odisha Anganwadi Ladies Workers Association also staged a demonstration in the city and set on fire Rout's picture. They threatened to intensify agitation if Rout was not dismissed.
Rout's cabinet colleagues, Cooperation Minister S N Patro, Higher Education Minister Ananta Das and Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Maheswar Rout had also disapproved Rout's statement on women.
"Politicians should remain within their limits," Patro had said.
