Navy to hold mock search and rescue exercise tomorrow

Indian Navy will conduct a search and rescue exercise tomorrow near here in a bid to assess its preparedness to deal with a situation of military/civil aircraft crash over the land.
The entire exercise involving a mock crash will be coordinated by Naval Air Station, INS Garuda under the Southern Naval Command Headquarters here, a release said.
The aircraft crash would be simulated at the Alleppey Helipad, it said.
The exercise will be conducted in three phases -- Initiation of SAR (Search and Rescue) organisation, search of aircraft crash site and rescue of survivors and salvage of the aircraft, where all aircraft of Southern Naval Command and Coast Guard aircraft will take part.
Specialised crash and salvage team of the air station will participate in the last phase and the exercise would be concluded after completion of activities in the late hours tomorrow, the release added.
