A huge stock of arms, explosives and other material were also seized from the naxal hideout after the gun battle last evening in the forest area under Malewada police station in Kurkheda taluqua of the district, DIG, Gadchiroli range, Ravindra Kadam told reporters today.
Acting on a tip-off that a gang of around 50-60 ultras was hiding in the Hetalkasa forest, the special anti-naxal squad of the police rushed to the spot, Kadam said.
On seeing the police, the naxals opened fire on them and also triggered an explosion.
On searching the area, police found the body of a naxalite, who was yet to be identified.
One 12 bore single rifle with 19 live cartridges, five cartridges of 9 mm pistol, a pipe bomb, wire and other naxal material were also recovered from the spot, police said, adding, anti-naxal operations have been intensified in the area.
