The ruling NC in Jammu and Kashmir today said the party will emerged as a major player in the 2014 Assembly elections in the state.
"National Conference has been, is and will continue to remain a major player in the state," National Conference provincial president Devender Singh Rana said, while referring to a comment made by Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) chief Saif-ud-Din Soz recently.
"Alliance of NC with Congress is not for the sake of power, but due to the relationship of mutual understanding based on the high principles of secularism and democracy," Rana said while addressing a day-long convention of the nominated presidents and office bearers of the 71 wards of the Jammu city at party headquarters here.
Soz had earlier said that Congress will emerge as the single largest force in 2014 Assembly elections in the state.
"It will be the people of Jammu and Kashmir and nobody else to decide who will form the next government," Rana said.
He said that since the party has entered into an alliance with Congress in 2008, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has been adhering to the "coalition dharma" with sincerity of purpose.
Taking a dig at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the NC leader said, "Despite emerging as single largest party with 28 members in the Legislative Assembly in 2002, NC decided to sit in opposition just because it felt that the people had not mandated the party to power."
Referring to the recent statement of PDP chief Mufti Mohammed Sayeed on the fairness of elections, Rana said, "When PDP wins, everything appears to be right and on loosing they smell foul.
